Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over,
But had me believing that it was always something that I'd done....
But I don't want to live that way, reading into every word you say.....
You say that you can let it go,
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know........
I remember sitting at my computer desk, textbooks sprawled out around me as I was studying for a huge mid-term exam in the most dreaded class that I had been stressing about all semester. I finally put myself to bed realizing that if I could get a good night's sleep and wake up early to review my notes, I'd have a better chance at being calm for the test.
As soon as I laid my head down, I got a phone call from two mutual friends asking me to come to a bar to come pick you up because you were trying to drive home drunk. You locked yourself in your red Dodge truck but didn't get far because you completely passed out in the driver's seat, not even moving to acknowledge your friend's banging on your window to try to persuade you to go with them to a safer place.
I drove an hour and a half total to come get you, place you in my car and deliver you to the safety of my bed. I cried myself to sleep again that night thinking about how I always seemed to be picking up the pieces you'd break between us.
I failed my exam the next day; I couldn't concentrate and got no sleep once I finally got to bed at 5 a.m with my exam being at 8 a.m.
